Case StudyMortgage Network USAMNUSA provides its client mortgage companies with access to a proprietary database of borrowers who may require refinancing of FHA loans. They needed a complex and highly functional interface to this proprietary data, which would provide fast, on-line access to the data, maintain tight security of the data, and provide a way to track how the data was being used. MNUSA contacted us to design and develop such a system. Because the front-end had to be quite elaborate to support all the functionality required, a browser based solution was not workable. Because of security considerations, the data needed to be kept at the home office rather than being distributed. We developed an application in Visual FoxPro, accessing data which could be stored either in a Visual FoxPro database or in SQL Server. The application runs on Microsoft's Terminal Server and Citrix's MetaFrame. The client companies dial into the application via secure internet connections using Terminal Server clients and run the application directly on MNUSA's servers. Only the screen changes and keystrokes are sent across the internet. Products used: Microsoft Visual FoxPro. This provides an object oriented, rapid development environment for the user interface and for the various data manipulation and reporting functions. It also provides a high performance data engine. Microsoft Terminal Server. This allows us to have the application running on the home server, but still allow a rich interface into the data for clients dialing in across the Internet. It also provides a high degree of physical security for the data. Citrix MetaFrame. This supports the additional functionality needed to provide the rich interface.
